Pet Friendly Rentals: Hilton Head with Your Best Friend

The biggest perk of being a local is knowing exactly when the off-leash sand Freedom kicks in. To outsmart the crowds, we suggest staying near the Alder Lane beach access. It’s a quieter stretch of sand where it’s easier to manage your dog during the allowed windows.
The 2026 Local Rulebook:
Winter (Oct – March): The local favorite. Dogs are allowed on the beach anytime, provided they are under voice control or on a leash.
Spring/Fall (April – May / Sept): Keep them on a leash between 10 AM and 5 PM. Outside those hours, the sand is yours.
Summer (Memorial Day – Labor Day): For everyone's safety, dogs aren't allowed on the sand from 10 AM to 5 PM. This is the best time to explore the shaded Sea Pines Forest Preserve trails or the canopy paths in Shipyard.
We've done our best to make sure beaches, parks, restaurants and rules are up-to-date, but always check before you go!
Beyond the Beach: South End Favorites When the tide is high, we head for the shade. Our villas and condos are positioned for an easy four-legged "commute":
Chaplin Community Park: The best spot for a full-speed, off-leash run in a fenced area.
Low-Tide Biking: At low tide, the beach turns into a hard-packed highway. It is the perfect time to bike with your dog down toward the Sea Pines boundary.
Coligny Circle Patios: After a walk, we usually grab a seat at The Sandbar. They are great about water bowls and keeping the "Coligny Lifestyle" easy for guests with dogs.
